I am Dr. Phillip Alexander Ducreay, M.A., D.M.A.

Arts Leader, Violinist, Musicologist, and Pedagogue. #SphinxLEAD

Music is life itself.

-Louis Armstrong

I am Phillip Ducreay, a multifaceted leader shaping the future of classical music. Leading The Nashville Symphony's Accelerando Program, I am on a mission to level the playing field for students from underrepresented backgrounds, breaking down barriers, and creating opportunities for their success. With a diverse skill set as a DMA-holding violinist, published musicologist, recording artist, and chamber musician, I embody the idea of a 21st-century musician.

Whether performing, teaching, or leading change in the arts, I believe service is the method for achievement, the metric for impact, and the proof of value.

New Models for Classical Programming

Experimentation is key to the evolution of Classical music. I believe in the power of curation to shift concert programming to experience cultivation.

Writing and Scholarship

Every artist from Bach and Coltrane to Ariana Grande and Bobby Shmurda has an unheard story to tell. As a musicologist, my role is to discover how artists operate as figures in culture and what their music might mean to listeners. I have recently had three entries on West African music published in Music Around the World: A Global Encyclopedia published by ABC-CLIO. My current research interests are the curation of playlists, Chamber Music, Hair Metal, 1980’s Punk, the music of black Americans, and musical experience creation.

Project Management

I’ve worked with many groups and departments within the University of Maryland to manage timelines and expectations for their projects. Most recently, I have completed the design and execution of a process for the inventory of technology at the Adele H. Stamp Student Center using the KACE Endpoint Management application. Currently, I am working in Smartsheet to design forms and tools for use by university departments at the University of Maryland. Every project has unique metrics for success and I work to help every client to reach them.

Today, I work as an arts leader, performer, writer, and teacher.
